Java is like a Disney princess. She was that gorgeous girl waiting for true love, and waiting was the largest part of her young life. She had an encounter with evil that set her off her long wait but Java never lost hope. Java waited every day on a porch, chained in a small area, surrounded by nothing but her own filth. She had a litter of puppies from inbreeding to her brother who were sold and given away. She was used, neglected and abandoned. Still, she waited and never lost hope for her fairy tale. Melt My Heart Rescue and Sanctuary was out to pick up supplies when they noticed her and inquired, to which they were told not to get involved. So, they got involved. Turned out that Java was sparsely being cared for by a big hearted but disabled man who was unable to take on their full care and had reported her situation to authorities. Unfortunately, he was in an under manned area and authorities were no where to be found after multiple attempts. Luckily he was able to contact the owners directly and it was clear Java was waiting in vain, at least for her once “family” who one of which was in jail and the other had left town with no plans to come back for Java or desire for her. Java came home with the Melt My Heart family and was assessed, vetted and began work on some manners as she had no semblance of being a family pup, household dog, or how to handle all her energy and excitement. After all she wasn’t given the opportunity to be the puppy she still was herself! After a long process of getting ready for a family the search began and Java’s hopes held up. She waited patiently, posed for pictures, cuddled on strangers, greeted kids, went to events, spread the word. But there was nothing. She waited. For about a year. Barely a single inquiry to gaining a forever family, and those who did never made it out to meet her. But she still waited and held onto her happy hopeful demeanor. Then it came. An application came through, and a family drove a long drive out just to meet her. They noticed her, even over all the pups at the sanctuary, SHE was the special one. No one over shadowed her! Her people had found her, they’d come to break the spell of bad luck and grant her every wish! Oh, trust me she knew this, she was in love already. Then they went home. Java wasn’t sure what was going on, just that she was still at the sanctuary, and although she loved it there, she felt those were her people. Little did she know those people were getting all their paperwork filled out cause they made it OFFICIAL! Java went home to her new family and met her fur siblings, her neighbors and fellow kids, and got to know her new house… oh and CHEESE. Don’t forget she got introduced to cheese. That was like the Disney princess kiss of approval. Later Java visited the sanctuary when her family had to go out of town for a bit, she was happy to visit and play with her former pack that took care of her while she was waiting for her throne. She knew her family would be back. After her vacation back with the sanctuary residents she went back to her new home and happily trotted inside, it was apparent she knew it was home. Java truly did get her fairy tale beginning and is living the good life now, and we’re excited to say we get updates of how great she’s doing regularly! They are all family now <3

Once upon a time there were 3 little kitties. Each little kitty made themselves a home. One made a home from paper, one made a home from straw, and one made a home from sticks. Life came tumbling through and blew all 3 homes down and the three little kitties found themselves in a rescue all at once. Augustus was the oldest and he's an experienced mouser. He's a cuddly boy for a mainly outdoorsy type but is willing to show the youngin's how the world works so long as they listen up! =) Although he's really old for a kitty he's a spunky old man who checked out great. He was ready for his new retirement life and to let the youngin's start bringing home the bacon and taking care of him. Jupiter and Saturn were young brothers growing up in the world. They were a bit shy at first but with Augustus' confidence he showed them how to be brave. These two boys learned both how to get human attention, and how to be a cat hunter! These three were an unstoppable, lovable team that created quite a quirky family. The youngin's let Augustus be boss and he showed them what's important in life. All 3 loved attention and got plenty of it! Between the 3 of them you get a bit of everything with their adorable markings and playful or cuddly moments. We're so glad that not only did they all get adopted, but they all got adopted together! They will stay in their quirky formed family unit allowing Augustus his perfect retirement and the boys a seasoned mentor. Their young human boy built them an amazing cat house just for them to play or hide in and they have lots of space to play and explore as well, but most importantly they have their forever home, their human boy and each other. Thank you for adopting and taking in 3 lives at once! Lucy is an elderly Jack Russel Terrier who had a rough life. She came to us because the woman who took her in was no longer able to afford her care or able to feed her due to sudden life changes. Prior to that Lucy had been passed around and not cared for, her history was lost and she seemed to have little interest in most things - at first.
After coming to us it didn't take long to realize that something was not right with Lucy. We found she had worms and treated her for immediately. She also was put on treatment for her hips as she had stiffness and trouble walking. She did also have incontinence and some slight dementia, however she settled in after getting used to the routine and started to be more at ease. She showed us all that she loved soft warm beds, adored chewing on bones that were larger than her and liked to prance around. With her age she was not put in the adoptable section - however a miracle came for Lucy. A woman who has an amazing heart for elderly dogs, who had one other elderly small dog had just lost her Jack Russel Terrier. Lucy pulled so strongly at her heart strings she just had to meet her, and immediately you could tell there was a connection. Lucy was licking her face, comfortable around the other pup, and cuddling up. We knew this was a special circumstance and that Lucy had found where she belonged. Lucy went home that day, to her forever home where she'll have all the attention and focus on her. She will finally after 15 years get the love and undivided attention she'd deserved all her life. We're so happy as Lucy needed a very very special home and deserved to have more love packed into one day than you could pack into a year. Happy forever home, Lucy dear. *update* Due to unforeseen circumstances, health and safety of Lucy and her mom, we've taken Lucy back into the sanctuary forever where she continues to happily live with us! *update* Lucy had an amazing loving life for nearly another year and her previous mum checked in with her. She bonded greatly with one of the sanctuary owners and was the sweetest thing! She eventually had worsening dementia and crossed the rainbow bridge in her sanctuary care takers arms, loved and having had a great sanctuary family. Ladd was a horse that was used as a ranch working horse. He didn't even have a name in his 14 years of life prior to coming to us. He was simply a number, and once the rancher was no longer in need of work horses he was left in a field. Left out in that field he had malnutrition and lack of care. The land owners said he was uncatchable, and that if we could get him we they'd be happy for us to take him. I walked into the pasture area, walked up and asked him if he'd like to leave. He let me guide him out without any fight or issue!
At first he was fearful of the alpacas, but after time integrating him in slowly he happily joined all the other animals and would run around with the goats, alpacas, dogs, chickens and more. He turned out to be a real sweetheart, fully ridable and picked up all the basics quite quickly. Ladd met his dream home in a wonderful couple who provide him with everything he could ever have dreamt of! This couple had been looking for the perfect fit for awhile and put a lot of patience into finding the right horse for them. He also made friends with a new type of animal, cows! His transformation of just being worked and knowing no other life to trusting people was wonderful. Our volunteers played a huge role in helping Ladd find trust in humans, and with this wonderful couple he now can bond. He follows people around like a puppy in the field and loves treats and butt scratches. We're so glad that the rest of his life will be long spent with an amazing home and going out to explore new trails. Lucy is one of the sweetest goats you'd ever have met, and tallest! She towered over all the other goats, and even the mini horses. Lucy was pulled from a severe neglect home along with the other animals. She was drastically underweight, anemic, needed worming and her hooves had grown into layers of multiple hooves. Her recovery was slow and at her age we were unsure how well she would fair from all the change and treatment.
It turned out that Lucy was the greatest adventurer of all the goats! She would be the first to explore a new area, or squish down a fence. She didn't mind being on her own as long as she had a herd to sleep with but would help the other goats get around too and watch out for them all. Most of all she adored having attention from people and getting treats and scratches. It wasn't long before Lucy really started to recovery and do quite well, although it was evident she was definitely an elderly lady. She had so much more life to give despite being older that she was eventually placed as adoptable. A family soon messaged about Lucy and asked if she needed a home still. They offered her a wonderful home, space to roam, lovely warm shelters, and a herd of goats like her. When Lucy was scheduled to go down to her new potential home, she was greeted by an entire family welcoming party! She fit in immediately and we all knew she'd hit the jackpot. Especially when their pygmy goat was flirting up a storm and all the other goats were happy to accept Lucy right away. She now has a home full of respectful loving kids, a wonderful goat dad, a loving goat mom and many goat family herd members. We're so glad all her last days for however long will be filled with more joy than she could imagine! Happy forever home, Lucy! Samson’s Story (Now Bo). Samson was a young pup, originally in a shelter somewhere outside of Washington. As most young pups he was eager to get out of the shelter and go home with a family. Samson was picked to go to bomb training school and start as a working dog. Unfortunately, he failed the intake exam. He then went home with the trainer in order to calm down and get used to being out of a shelter environment and try again. He started going to work with her in order to learn the ropes and hopefully pass or show some aptitude for bomb sniffing. Samson wasn’t great at finding trouble though, he’d be better suited to eat it if anything haha. In the end he wasn’t happy with the idea of being a working dog, and the examiner wasn’t interested in Samson as a house dog and felt he was too much work. They didn’t want to work with Samson anymore and had too much on their plate to deal with a barely 1 year old, 75lb black lab puppy. So off to Melt My Heart he was sent. Upon arrival we knew instantly he was an absolute love. Samson showed immediately that all he wanted to do was play, whether it be cat, dog, person, bird – sometimes he wanted to play too much but he’s a puppy and that was expected. He was a model pup and even when he was hyper was eager to fit in with everyone. Samson quickly learned about potty training, and crate training. He was tested with all types of other dogs and taken out on trips. He did amazing on car rides and showing off how cute he was. It didn’t take long before he was off to his final vet visit to and to meet a special family. His final vet visit got him up to date on shots, microchip, a health check-up, some routine de-wormer, and some prescription food to go home since all the changes had his tummy in butterflies. When he met his family, he was all smiles, tail wags and kisses! It was pretty evident right away that the ENTIRE family was willing to participate in Samson’s care, training, exercise and managing his transition. His new life started with a brand new name, Bo. They also had a great local support system that was already involved and ready to assist with training, play dates and puppy sitting. When we popped the question of adoption and they accepted immediately we knew Bo had found the perfect family. We love the updates and hope he has a happy forever life with his 2 human siblings, 2 cat siblings (who are still warming up to a big ol hyper boy) and his older pup sister (another lab). Thank you for giving Bo (Was Samson) the dream home he was begging for! June’s Tale. June has a story that is far too common. Beginning with a home that should’ve been her loving forever home as a young pup. Instead that home didn’t feel she was worth giving the love, time or even necessities of life to grow into a happy and healthy adult. She was then left on a chain in the yard for over a year. Her very first year of life, left on a lot with barely enough food to sustain herself, and even less love. The property June lived on was later sold as she approached a year and a half, and a new family moved in. This family had no need or desire to have a dog, yet there she was left on the property on a chain, starving for food and for affection. Unfortunately, this family had no intention of providing her with these things. Thanks to someone who tipped of animal services a home visit was performed, and requirements for better circumstances for June were set. At a follow up, and failed home visit, charges were to be pressed unless June was immediately released into their custody. Fortunately for June, animal services were able to recover her that day. June began her road to recovery with a surgery to remove the embedded collar that had grown into her skin over a long period of time being on the end of a chain. She was also fixed, given shots, and shaved to remove her severely matted fur and allow her skin to air out and heal. She has been gaining weight to a healthy standard and has shown that despite her circumstances she still very much loves anyone and everything. June passed all her temperament tests after we took her in and quickly took the heart of her soon to be forever mum. Sadly, although June was already over a year and a half old, she was still a puppy and was weakened by her system recovery so therefore had gotten kennel cough in the shelter before we pulled her. With quick response though she was treated for her kennel cough and given a full bill of health later while in the custody of her forever mum in California! She was given a thorough behavior plan for future training, adjustment to a true family life and full long-term recovery with which we expect 100% normal future! Not only did June end up with a forever mum and dad, but she has love for days from her brother and sister pup as well! June bug is the sweetest girl who is happy to FINALLY be home, healthy, loved and secure. Her mum updates us with frequent pictures of her enjoying a warm bed inside, play time outside, her siblings and cuddles on the couch. We can’t thank Victoria enough for wholeheartedly bringing June into her family and life. We know she’ll now get everything she has long awaited and deserves – and more. |
