Ladd was a horse that was used as a ranch working horse. He didn't even have a name in his 14 years of life prior to coming to us. He was simply a number, and once the rancher was no longer in need of work horses he was left in a field. Left out in that field he had malnutrition and lack of care. The land owners said he was uncatchable, and that if we could get him we they'd be happy for us to take him. I walked into the pasture area, walked up and asked him if he'd like to leave. He let me guide him out without any fight or issue!
At first he was fearful of the alpacas, but after time integrating him in slowly he happily joined all the other animals and would run around with the goats, alpacas, dogs, chickens and more. He turned out to be a real sweetheart, fully ridable and picked up all the basics quite quickly. Ladd met his dream home in a wonderful couple who provide him with everything he could ever have dreamt of! This couple had been looking for the perfect fit for awhile and put a lot of patience into finding the right horse for them. He also made friends with a new type of animal, cows! His transformation of just being worked and knowing no other life to trusting people was wonderful. Our volunteers played a huge role in helping Ladd find trust in humans, and with this wonderful couple he now can bond. He follows people around like a puppy in the field and loves treats and butt scratches. We're so glad that the rest of his life will be long spent with an amazing home and going out to explore new trails.
